Being a local Rensco. blogger, I can’t help but notice the burgeoning grassroots efforts of the Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline (SNYFGP) groupies lately. Fresh off the heels of their success in fighting the Northeast Energy Direct Pipeline proposal that caused the developer to withdraw its application, they are now pulling out all the stops for a Renewable Energy Fair. Myself being a social media guru and constant user for blogging, I have seen them continue to get stronger in their media presence around town and have started to use their growing network of social media savvy friends to help spread the word, most recently with professional PSA radio announcements. To me this appears like the perfect one-stop shop for those yearning to learn the “Whitman Sampler of renewable energy.”
My sources tell me SNYFGP has more than 20 exhibitors signed up for the Renewable Energy Fair scheduled for Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maple High School, 1216 Maple Hill Road in Castleton.
“Our attention will be focused on Columbia, Rensselaer, and Albany counties. This will be one of the largest Renewable Energy Fairs ever held in our area and will help residents find out more about solar, wind and geothermal energy, insulation and other ways to make their homes (or workplaces) more efficient and leave less of a carbon footprint on our environment,” said Ken and Mary Scallon.
The Fair will have information and displays about residential and commercial solar, wind and geothermal energy, community/roofless solar, insulation and other energy efficiency products and services, electric vehicles, ways to pay your electric bill via renewable energy, conservation and sustainability (CSAs, light bulbs, composting, recycling), and children’s activities. Admission and parking are free.
Among the companies already committed are: Advanced Modular Homes, Alpine Solar, Apex Solar Power, Advance Tech Insulation, Aztech Geothermal, Capital District Electric Vehicle Drivers, The Climate Chief, Citizens Climate Lobby, Carl the Solar Guy, Green Mountain Energy, Hudson Solar, Hudson Valley Wind & Solar, High Peaks Solar, Lotus Energy, New York Energy Society, People of Albany United for Sustainable Energy, Solar City, Solarize Albany County, Solar Sal, Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline, Viridian Energy, and Veteran Solar Systems. More exhibitors are expected. Exhibitors are offering Door Prizes, Fair discounts and other benefits for attendees, especially where an energy saving contract related to the Fair is established.
