SOLARIZE KICKS OFF IN KINGSTON
KINGSTON, N.Y. – May 11, 2015 – Solarize Kingston held a kick-off community event to launch a new initiative offering special discounts and loans for solar system installations for homes and small businesses in Kingston on Saturday, May 9 at Keegan Ales.
Melissa Everett and Betta Broad welcomed the crowd on behalf of Sustainable Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountainkeeper, the two non-profit organizations that are spearheading the Solarize Kingston campaign and Solarize Hudson Valley project.
Hugo Jule spoke in English and in Spanish on behalf of RUPCO, the affordable housing agency based in Kingston. Solarize has partnered with RUPCO to facilitate low-interest loans through the “Green Jobs-Green NY” program, to help fund the cost of both solar systems and home energy-efficiency improvements.
Also at the kick-off celebration were two “solar ambassadors” – Emilie Hauser and Jeff Broido – residents who already have solar on their homes and were willing to share their experience.
Seth Leitman announced that, as part of the program, he will be hosting a “Solar Hot Line” that people can call to get their solar electric questions answered. Leitman is the editor of McGraw Hill’s Green Guru Guides.
The three local solar firms who will be designing and installing systems through the program were on hand to introduce their companies and answer questions. They are Hudson Solar of Rhinebeck, SOLARgeneration of Kingston and New York State Solar Farm of Modena/Gardiner.
The Solarize program streamlines and simplifies the decision-making process, while still offering choices: buy or lease, roof-mount or ground-mount. The selected installers are certified, use high-quality components, and their work is guaranteed. And because of the group purchase discount, everyone who enrolls in the community program saves money.
Enrollments for Solarize Kingston officially opened on Saturday and will continue for 4 months. To receive the group-purchase discount the program offers, residents or business owners must sign a contract for their solar system by the September 12, 2015 deadline.
Solarize Kingston events will be scheduled through the summer. These will include Community Workshops, Solar Home Tours, and even a “live” solar installation.
